Process for making a rope-shaped and/or ribbon-shaped portion of bags or boxes, characterized by comprising:- providing a rope-shaped and/or ribbon-shaped element (9) comprising at least one yarn (17,18);- combining at least one containment element (12) with a predetermined portion of at least one rope-shaped or ribbon-shaped element (9);- cutting said rope-shaped and/or ribbon-shaped element (9) at said containment element (12), so that each of the ends (1) created by said cut has at least one portion of containment element (12);- applying a glue or resin or starch to said rope-shaped and/or ribbon-shaped element (9) at the portion in which the combination with said containment element (12) takes places; said step of applying a glue or resin or starch being possible before or after the cutting step;- removing said containment element (12).
