Cell lines for screening odorant and aroma receptors

Provided herein is a cell line having an improved odorant receptor function comprising an activated endogenous RTP1 gene, the cell line further expressing a RTP1 protein. Further provided herein are methods for specifically activating the endogenous RTP1 gene in eukaryotic cells using techniques derived from CRISPR / Cas9. Further provided herein is a method for identifying a compound having a desired effect, such as a fragrance or a fragrance modulator in the cell line.
