It forms of the present invention a device (1) for intrauterine insertion which includes: • - an expandable balloon (19) having a proximal end (20) and a distal end (21), sized to fill the uterine cavity during expansion and to exert pressure against its boundary wall on substantially the total surface of said wall; • - a catheter (13) having a proximal end (22) and a distal end (23), where said distal end (23) of said catheter is connected with the proximal end (20) of said balloon (19), and said proximal end (22) of said catheter is connected to a source of fluid and means (26) for supplying pressurized fluid to the balloon (19) through said catheter to effect and maintain its expanded condition, wherein said catheter (13) is connected with a seal connector (3, 15, 60, 70 80, 100, 120, 130) to said balloon (19). A further object of the present invention is the use of said device for the tamponade of postpartum intrauterine haemorrhages.
