The invention relates to a method for the rough classification of the particle size distribution of a bulk material, wherein the method comprises the following steps: a) capturing an image of the surface of a bulk material by means of a first camera (40) in a first position; b) evaluating the captured image in order to establish particle sizes of the bulk material on the surface of the bulk material, wherein the evaluation comprises the following steps: c) searching for continuous surfaces in the image; d) determining a diameter for each identified surface; e) determining the average value and the distribution of the diameter; and f) determining a classifier by multiplying the average value with the distribution.
