The disclosed technology detects instability in the cooler system and reduces false alarms. In a given time window, a smoothed time series of cooler temperature sensor data is tested over a period of stable operation below a given threshold. The disclosed technique predicts that the reagent condenser will be unstable if the stable temperature operating period is less than a given stability measure, or if the stable reagent cooler temperature exceeds a threshold. To do. The disclosed technology detects failures of flow cell heaters over multiple cycles in the system. A time series of temperature sensor data for the flow cell heater is tested to determine if the point count was recorded above the threshold in a recent processing cycle. The disclosed technique determines that the flow cell heater is faulty if the count of points above the threshold in two consecutive cycles is less than a predetermined count.
