A preparation method for a graphene-based modifier, comprising the following steps: dispersing graphene oxide in an organic solvent to produce a graphene oxide suspension; adding an esterification modifier into the graphene oxide suspension, adding concentrated sulfuric acid, heating and refluxing for 1-3 hours; when reaction is finished, stratifying by standing still, removing the supernatant, collecting, rinsing, and drying a product to produce an esterification-modified graphene oxide; mixing the esterification-modified graphene oxide with a silane coupling agent at a high speed for 5-30 min to produce a graphene-based modifier. The application of the esterification-modified graphene oxide modifier in a cable material significantly increases the shielding level of a cable and increases the flame retardancy of the cable.
