The invention relates to a protective device for placing a respiratory accessory over the upper airway to provide assisted ventilation and/or intubation with a video laryngoscope, in processes which require contact of a medical professional with the upper airway of a patient. The device comprises a sheet and the purpose thereof is to provide a physical barrier to protect the medical professional or person who handles and places the respiratory accessory on the patient, for example, a mask or a video laryngoscope for the subsequent introduction of an endotracheal tube into the patient, from the fluid and air expelled by the patient, in order to avoid potential infection. The device essentially has a sheet with dimensions sufficient for at least covering the face or head of the patient, with an opening for introducing the respiratory accessory and tight retaining means for fitting said respiratory accessory.
