The invention concerns a superconducting detection device (1) for detecting a single microwave photon (2), characterised in that the device (1) comprises: - a quantum system (10) with two energy levels of which the ground state and an excited state are controllable and detectable, the quantum system (10) being designed to allow modulable three-wave interaction; - a buffer resonator (12) arranged to receive an incident single microwave photon (2); - a highly dissipative auxiliary resonator (14) arranged to discharge a photon (3); and - reading means arranged to detect the state of the two-level quantum system (10); in which the buffer resonator (12) and the auxiliary resonator (14) are coupled to the quantum system (10); and in which the excited state of the quantum system (10) and the photon of the auxiliary resonator (14) are created in response to the reception of the incident photon in the buffer resonator (12) and to the application of parametric pumping (4) to the device (1). The invention also concerns a method for detecting a single microwave photon implemented by means of a device (1) according to the invention.
