The present invention provides an improved method of quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of target molecules using nitrocellulose (NCM). In particular, the present invention provides a porous nitrocellulose membrane comprising organic nanostructured molecules and a surface that are non-covalently attached to the surface of the NCM. The organic nanostructured molecule has a branched region comprising a plurality of terminal region (eg, terminal end) moieties that are non-covalently attached or bound to the surface of the porous NCM. The organic nanostructured molecule also includes a covalently attached capture molecule that is coordinated to selectively bind to a target molecule. The NCMs of the present invention provide improved reproducibility, reliability, and selectivity compared to NCMs in the absence of the organic nanostructured molecules.
