Provided are amorphous silica having a specific BET specific surface area and a method for producing the same, etc. Amorphous silica that is aggregated particles in which silica of nanoparticles is aggregated, the particle size (D50) of the aggregated particles being 0.5-50 μm, and the BET specific surface area being 300 m2/g or higher. The amorphous silica can be prepared by carbonizing a pressure molded product of a silica-containing plant, mixing an alkaline solution with the carbide obtained and separating the solids to obtain a silicic acid salt solution, adjusting the solution to a pH of 0.5-2.5 to precipitate the silica, and, after 24 h, washing and drying the silica which has a pH of 0.5-2.5.
