In an electronic device and an operation method thereof according to various embodiments, the electronic device may comprise: a media processing unit for generating packets; and a communication processor comprising a user plane protocol for transmitting the packets to an external electronic device, wherein the communication processor is configured to: in response to determining a failure in transmitting at least some of the packets by using the user plane protocol, check state information of a network used to retransmit the at least some packets; determine, on the basis of the state information of the network, whether to retransmit the at least some packets; and control, on the basis of whether to retransmit the packets, the media processing unit to generate the packets to be retransmitted.
