A method for preparing a multi-component photocatalyst includes the steps of inducing precipitation from a precursor solution including a precursor of a plasmonic material and a precursor of a reactive component to form coprecipitated particles; collecting coprecipitated particles; and annealing the coprecipitation particles to form a multi-component photocatalyst comprising a reactive component optically, thermally or electronically coupled to the plasmonic material.
