An adapter for hydraulically and mechanically connecting a remotely located brake master cylinder (MC, fig. 1b; first assembly 4, fig. 2) of a hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) of a vehicle braking system to a second assembly including the valve support block 6, brake fluid reservoir 5 and fluid input 7 and output 8 lines. The adapter comprises a mono-block including a cylinder 101-1 for locating in a bore of the valve support (e.g. the bore otherwise accommodating an integrated master cylinder), and a flange 101-2. A feeding through bore 101-10 extends from a feeding hole 101-10-1 in an external surface of one cylinder segment (e.g. aligning with input 7) to a feed port 101-2-1 in the flange. An output through bore 101-20 extends from a feeding hole 101-20-1 in an external surface of another cylinder segment (e.g. aligning with output 8) to an output port 101-2-2 in the flange. Also included are two brake master cylinder connection pipes (102-1 and 102-2; fig. 2). The adaptor allows the master cylinder to be mounted on the vehicle firewall while the second assembly is within the motor compartment. Also claimed is a HECU including the adaptor.
