An optical amplification fibre comprising: at least one core with a rare-earth element added thereto; an inner cladding that surrounds the core(s) and has a refractive index lower than the maximum refractive index of the core(s); and an outer cladding that surrounds the inner cladding and has a refractive index lower than the refractive index of the inner cladding, wherein the inner cladding contains a plurality of bubbles.
