The purpose of the present invention is to provide a novel method that makes it possible to produce a useful substance more efficiently using yeast. The present invention is a method for producing a xylose metabolic substance, the method being characterized by culturing, in a medium that includes a sulfur-containing compound, recombinant host cells that excessively express a polynucleotide encoding at least one protein which controls biosynthesis of an iron-sulfur cluster and that have a polynucleotide introduced therein, the polynucleotide encoding a group of other-species-derived enzymes involved in a xylose metabolic path. Preferably, the recombinant host cells have a polynucleotide introduced therein, the polynucleotide encoding a molecule that imparts oxidative stress resistance to the recombinant host cells.
