In the above method, the catalyst packing has at least two catalyst layers having different activities, and the activity of the first catalyst layer in the flow direction of the reaction gas is smaller than the activity of at least one other catalyst layer. In step b), the first partial stream is introduced into the first catalyst layer, and each additional partial stream is introduced beyond the first catalyst layer into at least one additional catalyst layer.
