A semiconductor headlight lamp (10) for motor vehicles is provided which has a lamp body (1) along a longitudinal axis (X). This comprises a rear base section with a base (20) and heat sink (60) and a support element (50) attached to it with semiconductor light sources (70) arranged thereon. A front section has a transparent housing (40). A driver circuit (55) supplies the light sources with electrical power so that the lamp emits light through the transparent housing. The lamp can be designed as a retrofit lamp and be of the H7, H8, H9, H11 or H16 type. In the case of a 12 V H7 lamp, for example, the power converted into light causes a luminous flux of at least 1500 lumens +/- 10% if the light sources are supplied with a test voltage of 13.2 volts. In this case, the lamp does not spatially extend beyond an envelope, as is defined in accordance with the ECE standard for a lamp of the H7 type. An optimal design with efficient passive heat transfer in tight spaces still allows a high luminous flux.
