A seed firmer (50) for pressing seeds into soil during planting is disclosed. The seed firmer (50) comprising: a mount (60) for attachment to a row unit (24) of a planting machine (20); and an arm (56, 56') defining a ground-facing surface (64) having at least one point of contact with the ground (G), including a rearmost ground contact point (P) with respect to a direction of forward travel during planting operation, wherein the ground-facing surface (64) has a transition section (104) directly trailing the rearmost ground contact point (P), the transition section (104) extending upwardly from the rearmost ground contact point (P).
