The present application discloses a method for purifying neutral human milk oligosaccharide (HMO). This method used simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography, which can continuously purify a large amount of high-purity HMOs. In contrast to methods for chemical synthesis of neutral HMOs and methods for their purification, this method can provide HMOs that do not contain harmful chemicals such as, for example, trace amounts of heavy metals or organic solvents. A single neutral HMO product can be obtained in solid form or as a concentrated syrup by spray drying. The provided HMO is well suited for use in the food sector.
