Methods and products for dynamic control of the environment by selective metabolic functions of microorganisms

Methods and products are provided for maintaining a target pH range of an environment comprising at least one organism. The method may include releasing the carbon source to the environment. The method may further comprise allowing the carbon source to be metabolized by the at least one organism and lower the pH of the environment. The method may also include releasing the nitrogen source to the environment. The method may further comprise allowing the nitrogen source to be metabolized by the at least one organism and increase the pH of the environment. The releasing of the carbon source into the environment and the releasing of the nitrogen source into the environment can optionally be timed to control the pH of the environment to a target pH range of the environment.
