The present specification is a method for reprogramming non neuronal cells into neurons.Aspects of the present disclosure relate to inhibiting the expression or activity of PTB to convert non neuronal cells into neurons using a cell reprogramming agent.A method of treating neurodegenerative disorders by reprogramming non neuronal cells into functional neurons in vivo is also provided herein.
