A method for facilitating clonal selection includes generating a time-sequence image of a container comprising a medium, comprising a first image and a subsequent second image. In addition, the method may include: detecting, by one or more processors analyzing the first image, one or more candidate objects displayed in the first image; and for each candidate object, determining whether the object is a single cell by analyzing an image of the object using a convolutional neural network. The method includes: detecting a cell colony displayed in the second image by analyzing the second image through the processor(s); and determining, by the processor(s), whether the colony was formed with only one cell, based at least on whether each candidate object was determined to be a single cell. The method further comprises generating, by the processor(s), output data indicating whether the colony was formed with only one cell.
