FILMLESS BACKSHEETS WITH GOOD BARRIER PROPERTIES

A multilayer nonwoven structure is disclosed wherein the nonwoven structure comprises at least two spun bond layers and at least one readily meltable layer. The readily meltable layer is positioned between at least two spun bond layers. The readily meltable layer consists of a polymer having a melting point at least 20° C. lower than the melting point of the polymer constituting the surface of the fibers constituting the spun-bonding layer, or made of a polymer that readily absorbs some form of radiation. Under bonding conditions, the fibers constituting the easily meltable layer can melt to form a film, thereby increasing the barrier properties of the nonwoven structure.
