The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an ultra-thin porous freestanding membrane and to an ultra-thin porous freestanding membrane prepared thereby. In one embodiment, the ultra-thin porous free-standing membrane manufacturing method includes preparing a first solution by mixing Nafion and an organic solvent; preparing a second solution by mixing the first solution and water; forming a film by applying the second solution on a substrate and heat-treating it at about 60 to 200° C. or room temperature; and separating the film from the substrate.
