Compensation for metastability of asynchronous SAR within delta sigma modulator loop

Disclosed herein are some examples of metastability detector and compensator circuits for a successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a delta sigma modulator (DSM) loop. A metastability detector can detect metastability at the output of the SAR ADC and a compensator circuit can implement a compensation scheme to compensate for the metastability. Identification of metastability and/or compensation for metastability avoids detrimental effects and/or errors on the DSM loop that may be caused by metastability of SAR ADCS.
