Detection of combustion process parameter values for each cylinder of an internal combustion engine

A method for detecting a cylinder-specific combustion profile parameter value of an internal combustion engine is described. The method includes detecting a sawtooth encoder signal; determining a sawtooth time interval for each cylinder based on the sawtooth encoder signal; determining a phase value for each cylinder based on Fourier transforming a portion of the sawtooth encoder signal corresponding to the sawtooth time interval for each cylinder; and determining the combustion profile parameter value based on a stored transfer function representing a relationship between the combustion profile parameter and the phase value and the cylinder-specific phase value.
