A method and apparatus for determining an initial bandwidth part (BWP). The method comprises: determining the frequency resources of a first initial BWP; the frequency resources of the first initial BWP are comprised in the frequency resources of a second initial BWP, the frequency resources of the first initial BWP correspond to a first type of terminal device, the frequency resources of the second initial BWP correspond to a second type of terminal device, and the capabilities of the two types of terminal devices are different. The solution provided in embodiments of the present application provides a novel method for determining a BWP, which reduces the required system bandwidth while a system may support different types of terminal devices.
