The invention relates to a soil substrate for fertilization and soil improvement, in particular in the root area of trees, comprising a mixture of organic biomass decomposed by fermentation, crushed pyrogenic carbon and living microorganisms. The soil substrate is characterized in that the mixture has a dry matter content of at least 90% and that all components of the mixture are below a certain grain size. The invention also relates to a method for producing the soil substrate, in which microorganisms living in an aqueous solution are activated, these are mixed with easily decomposable organic biomass and crushed pyrogenic carbon to form a mixture and this mixture is fermented. Following the fermentation, the mixture is dried and ground. The invention also relates to a method for introducing the soil substrate, in which an injection lance is pressed into a root area of a tree.
