To provide a tuning fork type crystal element that can inhibit leakage of vibration from the tuning fork type crystal element and reduce a deterioration in equivalent series resistance.SOLUTION: A tuning fork type crystal element 120 comprises: a rectangular crystal base 121 that has an XY'Z' orthogonal coordinate system in a crystal axis and has a thickness in a direction along a Z' axis; a pair of crystal vibration parts 123 that extend from a side face of the crystal base 121 along a Y' axis; excitation electrodes 125, 126 that are provided on principal surfaces and side faces of the pair of crystal vibration parts 123; extraction electrodes 127 that are provided from the pair of crystal vibration parts 123 to the crystal base and electrically connected to the excitation electrodes 125, 126; and notch parts C that are provided from an outer peripheral edge of the crystal base 121 along the Y' axis in the vicinity of extraction electrodes 127.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
