To provide a bit forwarding router (BFR) and an OAM test method that diagnose a communication failure that occurs during transmission of multicast packets in a network configured with the BFR using bit indexed explicit replication (BIER).SOLUTION: In an OAM test method, a BFIR sends an OAM request packet to one or more BFERs in a BIER network. The OAM request packet includes one or more bit strings and setting identifiers corresponding to one or more BFERs. The BFR in the BIER network may transfer the OAM request packet to the corresponding BFER according to the bit string and the setting identifier.EFFECT: This solves a problem in which the BFIR fails to diagnose or handle a failure when the failure occurs during the transmission of a multicast packet.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
