The invention relates to a supervision system (1) of a sports competition comprising two theodolites (11, 12) placed around or on a field (2) or a competition course. At least one electronic camera (13, 14) is mounted on each theodolite to track and view a moving object (3), and at least one base station (21) with data processing unit received from each theodolite (11, 12) and of each electronic camera for determining a position or a speed or a running time of the moving object during the competition. At least one image taken from the camera makes it possible to automatically control the orientation of the theodolites in the direction of a moving object by being centered in the image supplied by the theodolite camera in order to follow the moving object during the competition.
