Method for Removal of Reactive Solvents from Lithium Bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) Using Organic Solvents Stable for Lithium Ion and Anode in Lithium Metal Batteries
A process for making high purity LiFSI salts and intermediates using one, the other, or both reactive solvent removal/replacement methods and LiFSI purification methods. In some embodiments, the reactive solvent removal/replacement method comprises removing and/or replacing one or more reactive solvents in crude LiFSI using a non-reactive anhydrous organic solvent. . In some embodiments, a method for purifying LiFSI comprises removing impurities, such as synthetic impurities, from crude LiFSI using an anhydrous organic solvent. In some embodiments, crude LiFSI may be prepared using an aqueous-based neutralization process. Also described are LiFSI salts and products prepared using the methods of the present disclosure, and the use of such salts and products and electrochemical devices comprising such salts and products.
