A removable air filtration filter element is tested. A fine particle concentration detection unit (C2) is placed in the passenger compartment of the vehicle (8). The test comprises the following steps: - generating by a diffuser (3) a gas flow (F) loaded with fine particles outside the vehicle and directed to an ventilation inlet (5); - performing optical detection by said unit (C2) to measure in real time (53) the concentrations of particles as a function of their size, in a fraction of the flow collected in the passenger compartment; - determine (54) a respective separation efficiency rate of the filter element vis-à-vis the particles PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, by using the measurements and reference information on the flow generated at the exterior; and - developing and transmitting (55), at least in the event of a required change, a test result to a receiving terminal.
