The present application relates to a method for lighting control using hand gesture recognition, comprising: when a wave motion is detected, adding a received infrared signal to a received signal queue and continuing to receive infrared signals; if the infrared signal received by each channel of a receiving device has m consecutive rising edge phases and falling edge phases, then controlling a drive circuit to perform dimming according to the received infrared signal; if the infrared signal received by each channel of the receiving device does not have m consecutive rising edge phases and falling edge phases, then determining whether a user hand gesture remains motionless within n preset cycles; if the user hand gesture remains motionless for the n preset cycles, then determining whether there is subsequently a rising or falling hand gesture; if there is a subsequent rising or falling hand gesture, then, according to the received infrared signal, controlling the drive circuit to perform dimming. The method optimizes a recognition algorithm, uses a combination of multiple hand gestures, reduces the recognition of erroneous operations, improves the accuracy of hand gesture recognition, and is a significant improvement to user experience.
