The invention relates to teaching aids intended for carrying out experiments, and more particularly to an educational apparatus for conducting experiments in quantum optics for the purposes of studying quantum cryptography protocols. The claimed apparatus comprises a transmitting unit and a receiving unit connected by a quantum data transfer channel, wherein the transmitting unit contains a functional programmable logic device (PLD) connected to a control PLD that is connected in turn to a first control computer. The functional PLD makes it possible to delay electrical pulses in order to ensure that they arrive at a phase modulator at the required time. The receiving unit contains a functional PLD connected to a control PLD that is connected in turn to a second control computer, wherein the functional PLD makes it possible to shorten to several nanoseconds an electrical pulse sent by a laser module; and the first and second computers make it possible to control the process of quantum key distribution in order to allow convenient and rapid setting of the desired parameters of an experiment using an established optical circuit.
