The approach presented here concerns a procedure for detecting a group runtime variation (102) for a navigation sensor (105) for a navigation system (110) for a vehicle (115). The procedure involves a step of reading and a step of investigation. At least one first GNSS simulator (127) signal (130) from a virtual satellite (135) from a virtual global navigation satellite system (135) will be read at the reading stage.(140) and a second GNSS simulator signal (140) read at a second time different from the first time from the virtual satellite (130) or at least a second virtual satellite (145) of the virtual navigation satellite system (135) via a read-in device (120). The first GNSS simulator signal (127) and the second GNSS simulator signal (140) are used to determine the group runtime variation (102).
