The invention refers to a process for charging an electric vehicle (36) with a charger (1), where the charger (1) is connected to a three-phase distribution network (28) of an energy supply system (26) in three phases, and the electric vehicle (36) is charged in a first charging mode (23) of the charger (1) with electricity generated by a local installation (30), where the local installation (30) feeds the electricity into the distribution network (28).The inventive method allows the charging of an electric vehicle with locally generated energy to be carried out particularly efficiently.To this end, the electric vehicle (36) shall be loaded three-phase during a charging operation in the first charging mode (23) of the charger (1); where the local installation (30) produces at least one initial electrical power sufficient for the charging process to comply with a minimum power value for three-phase charging and is available for the charging process, and otherwise the electric vehicle (36) is loaded with the charger in one phase during the charging process (1);where the local installation (30) produces at least one second electrical power sufficient for the charging process to comply with the minimum current value at one-phase charging and is available for the charging process.
