LANDING AID SYSTEM AND LANDING AID METHOD

A landing aid system (100) for a pilot of an aircraft (200) to land in a landing site (10) is disclosed. The system (100) comprises: at least one camera (120, 121, 122, ...) for capturing images of the landing site (10) along a flying path (20) from a side of the aircraft (200); an IMU and a processing unit (130). The IMU and the cameras may also be installed on the aircraft (200) and system only accesses the corresponding data. The processing unit (130) is adapted: to determine three-dimensional, 3D, information of the landing site (10) based on a series of images (41, 42) captured along the flying path (20) and the corresponding navigational data, and, based thereon, to determine and provide landing symbology (31, 32, ...) for displaying to the pilot of the aircraft (200) to aid the landing.
