To provide a measurement method of the number of customers and a measurement device of the number of customers capable of simply and accurately counting the actual number of customers without including clerks to the counting object and without restricting the behavior of clerks and customers.SOLUTION: A measurement method of the number of customers recognizes a person 8 in a picked-up image 6, tracks the person 8 from entering a counting area 70 till leaving it, and determines whether the person 8 is a clerk or a customer after the tracking of the person 8 is ended. When a tracking start point p1 and a tracking end point p3 are both in a store inside region 72, the measurement method determines the person 8 as the clerk from a person tracking history, and does not count the person 8 as the number of customers. In any case when the tracking start point p1 is in a store outside region 73 and the tracking end point p3 is in the store inside region 72, when the tracking start point p1 is in the store inside region 72 and the tracking end point p3 is in the store outside region 73, and when a tracking via point p2 is included in the store inside region 72 although the tracking start point p1 and the tracking end point p3 are both in the store outside region 73, the measurement method determines the person 8 as the customer and counts the person 8 as the number of customers.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
