The technology disclosed here is an invention of a procedure for testing a single cell of an electrical energy storage device or for testing the energy storage device, covering the steps: affecting the behaviour of the individual cell to be tested during a thermal failure of the individual cell; (ii) Determine a replacement cell 100 which mimics the thermal behaviour of the individual cell during the failure; and (iii) perform at least one test using the replacement cell 100 instead of the single cell. The technology also concerns a replacement cell.
