An X-ray imaging system is disclosed which includes X-ray backscatter shielding and backscattering shielding. An exemplary X-ray backscattering shield comprises a combined backscattering shield that provides a shield from Compton scattered radiation and a shield frame that couples the backscattering shield to the X-ray source when placed in contact with the object to be scanned.
