PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus used for dry eye treatment which not only treats a symptom but also eliminates the cause of a disease or reduces the number of symptomatic treatments. An electrode system for treating dry eye with one or more electrodes is intended to be in contact with (a) the eye, orbit, temporal region, eyelid region or a portion thereof. Each of the parts of one or more electrodes mimics the shape of these or parts of them, or (b) one or more electrodes intended to be in contact with or abut on these or parts of these. Part of is flexible and shape compatible, thereby in the case of (a) and (b) the morphology of one or more electrodes and the surface shape of these or parts of them. A suitable fit can be achieved. A portion of one or more electrodes is supplied with an electromagnetic wave of a distorted sinusoidal current having a related harmonic, preferably at least the second and third harmonics, at a resonant frequency, preferably a resonant frequency of 4 MHz. ..
