PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium metal battery using metallic lithium for a negative electrode, which has improved safety, capacity and cycle characteristics. A cathode, an electrolyte in contact with the cathode, and an anode to the cathode in contact with the electrolyte contain carbon nanotubes, including a coating of metallic lithium on and between the surfaces of the carbon nanotubes, wherein the metal lithium.
