Disclosed in embodiments of the present application is a message detection method, which can be applied in the field of communications. The method in embodiments of the present application comprises: a first PE sends a detection message to a second PE, the detection message being used to enable the second PE to generate a response message, and the detection message comprising a bypass VXLAN tunnel source IP address; the first PE uses a bypass VXLAN tunnel to receive a response message to the detection message, the response message comprising the bypass VXLAN tunnel source IP address; and the first PE acquires a detection result from the response message. The first PE in embodiments of the present application may receive a response message, thus enabling the first PE to acquire a detection result.
