There is disclosed an in vitro method of diagnosing or monitoring the progression of renal glomerular disease in a subject. The method of the invention is based on the determination of the amount of extracellular vesicles (EVs) expressing prominin-1 in a biological fluid sample from the subject, wherein the amount of said EVs below a predetermined threshold value is indicative of renal glomerular disease or of progression of renal glomerular disease. Preferably, the biological fluid is urine.
