Cooking vessel for concurrently steaming and poaching food

A cooking vessel 1 suitable for concurrently steaming and poaching food comprises separable portions 2A, 2B which together define a closed container. The closed container comprises at least two internal compartments 9, 10 separated by a platform 11 and the platform is configured to allow fluid flow therethrough. The vessel further comprises a seal 6 at the juncture between the separable portions. The seal is adapted to allow the egress of steam from the closed container and prevent the ingress of liquid into the closed container. The platform may comprise upper 11A and lower 11B platform portions which join together to form a third internal compartment. The seal may be flexible and compressible and may be made from silicone. The seal may be in the form of a flattened disc with an aperture therethrough and may have an internal flange 8 which extends into the cooking vessel during use. An inner edge of the internal flange may comprise a slot 15 and the platform may be received by the slot. In use, the cooking vessel is placed into boiling water to permit concurrent poaching and steaming of food within the compartments of the vessel.
