The present invention relates to a method for forming hybrid license plates and a digital printing machine for carrying out said method, wherein said plates (1) comprise: a lower layer (2) having a rectangular base made of metal or a synthetic material; an intermediate layer (3) consisting of a reflective sheet (4) with symbols (5) and characters (6) printed thereon; and an upper layer (7) consisting of a transparent film (71). Said method comprises a digital printing phase for digitally printing the symbols (5) and characters (6) on said reflective sheet (4) with one and the same digital printing machine (10) which automatically incorporates the protective film of the upper layer (7) on said sheet (4) once printed, laminating both layers (3, 7) together, and a later phase in which said two layers (3, 7) bonded with the lower layer (2) are laminated. In addition to a printing unit (11), the machine (10) has automatic application and laminating means (14) for applying and laminating transparent film (71).
