Disclosed is a method for automatically controlling the traction speed of a coal cutter on the basis of a coal wall caving degree, relating to the technical field of coal cutter control. The control method comprises: an image collection unit performing feature extraction on feature vectors, reflecting a coal wall caving degree, in an image to realize the online evaluation of the coal wall caving degree; generating a current control instruction for a coal cutter on the basis of an online evaluation resu and transmitting same to a machine-mounted control unit (6) of the coal cutter to realize the automatic adjustment of the traction speed of the coal cutter. The traction speed of a coal cutter is automatically adjusted on the basis of a coal wall caving degree; and when the coal wall caving degree is high, a coal output from a roller is reduced by means of reducing a traction speed, such that a sudden change of a load on a scraper conveyer caused by coal wall caving is relieved, thereby increasing the service life of a driving electric motor, reducing the volatility of a power grid in a mining area, and ensuring the production safety of a whole fully mechanized coal mining face.
