The present invention relates to an adapter (10) for an elongate support profile (20) of an elongate mounting rail (2), having an elongate adapter body (11) comprising (a) an elongate coupling region (12) for coupling to a retaining limb (25) of the support profile (20) for mechanical fixing of the mounting rail (2), and (b) an elongate retaining region (13) which is formed such that it can be coupled to a coupling region (12) of an identical adapter (10). An electrical conductor element (14) having at least one electrical conductor (15) for connecting electrical or electronic components extends along the adapter body (11). The invention further relates to a mounting rail unit (1) for connecting electrical or electronic components, having an elongate mounting rail (2) comprising an elongate support profile (20) and an adapter (10) according to the invention, wherein the coupling region (12) of the adapter (10) is coupled to a corresponding retaining limb (25) of the support profile (20) for mechanically fixing the mounting rail (2) via the adapter (10). The invention also relates to a mounting rail system for connecting electrical or electronic components, having a plurality of mounting rail units (1) according to the invention comprising a plurality of mounting rails (2).
