The invention relates to a method for producing a stiffening layer (8) for the manufacture of a reinforced tyre casing (1), comprising the steps of manufacturing a strip (10) based on raw rubber material in which filamentary elements (9) are embedded, the filamentary elements (9) being spaced apart, parallel, and oriented substantially transversely with respect to the length (B) of the strip (10), and of segmenting the filamentary elements (9) by making selective openings in the material along the strip (10) so as to form the stiffening layer (8).
